Modifying WordPress Theme Backgrounds

 

I dabble in website creation, so keep that in mind when you read this post.  I am only a dabbler.  I am not an expert.  I also like shortcuts because once upon a time I spent way too much time on website design.  Here is my advice.  If you are creating a blog you want to customize, find a WordPress theme that has customizable options built in.  In this case, I am talking about themes where you can upload an image and the theme will automatically tile (repeat) that image to create a background.  Need a background image?  I have some trellis pattern options for you!

For another site, I had the design I wanted for the background pictured in my mind.  After a Google search, I learned that the design I had in mind is called a “trellis” pattern.  I created my own trellis pattern using circles and lines in Microsoft paint.  No joke!  Here are some of the trellis designs I used when playing around.  Feel free to right click and click “save image as” if you want to use any for yourself.  I figured the time I spent playing around with options may help save you some time.  Pay it forward!

Are you a big picture person?  I am too!  It is hard to imagine what each of those small images look like tiled, so here are some samples for you of how they can look on your website.

Notice how I varied the size of my original image?  Hopefully you see a size you like.  If not, open your downloaded image and scale it smaller.  If you want a bigger image, the best option is to recreate your own.

Are you new to blogging? I recommend WordPress because it can grow with your skill.  If you are looking for something more simple, Blogger may be a better choice for you.

Playing around is the best way to learn on the internet.   You won’t break anything (usually!).

Honestly, maybe you should break something!  Learning from mistakes are the lessons we remember best.
